NO KNIVES - BETTER LIVES Duration: 1 hour Suitable for: Students This workshop aims to give participants an increased awareness and understanding of violence and in particular knife crime in Scotland and to educate about the dangers and consequences of carrying a knife. We aim to encourage participants to consider the impact knife crime can have on a community and wider society. Learning Outcomes • Challenge participants to make informed choices about how to deal with conflict situations and keep themselves and others safe • Support young people to make positive, informed decisions and choices around the issues of violence. DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND THE LAW Duration: 1 hour Suitable for: Students We initially look at discussing and understanding “What is a drug?” and the most common drug offences. We also make a point of discussing with participants the understanding of NPS and the topic of drink and or drug driving before moving onto the dangers of alcohol and or drug consumption. Learning Outcomes • Educate participants on different classification of drugs (Misuse of Drugs Act 1971) • Educate participants in the laws applicable to consuming alcohol and drugs NPS AWARENESS Duration: 45 mins Suitable for: Students Working in conjunction with Cara Durnie, NHS Drug and Alcohol Officer, we will discuss with participants the understanding of NPS (formerly “Legal Highs”) and the different types of NPS. Our objective is to discuss and raise awareness of the risks of NPS. Learning Outcomes • Educate participants in relation to sale techniques/marketing of NPS • Provide participants with a better understanding of NPS and the Law HATE CRIME Duration: 30 mins - 1 hour Suitable for: Students Throughout this workshop we aim to give participants a clear definition of hate crime and the social groups impacted by looking at case studies of incidents of hate crime. We will discuss ‘What is fear of crime?’ and barriers of why hate crime may go unreported. We will also look at issues surrounding case studies and community impact. Learning Outcomes • Give participants a clear definition of hate crime and the social groups impacted • Provide participants with the knowledge that hate crime is wrong, against the law and that everyone has the right to live safely and without fear • Knowledge on how to report a hate crime
