STUDENTS PLEDGED SUPPORT FOR
WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN
Students at Ayr and Cumnock campuses
committed themselves to supporting the
principles of the White Ribbon Campaign, by
‘putting their hands’ to a pledge board which ia
now displayed in the College.
The White Ribbon Campaign is part of a global movement
to end domestic violence against women, and is asking
followers to pledge to ‘never commit, condone or stay
silent about violence against women’.
I led the campaign in the College, firstly attending training
sessions with White Ribbon Scotland and then visiting
classes to raise awareness, while distributing promotional
materials and wristbands.
Working closely with the College’s Learning Development
Advisors, I spoke to over 120 students, and 78 took part in
putting their hands to the pledge board.
Students were also being asked to sign pledge cards and
these were sent to the White Ribbon Campaign showing
Ayrshire College’s support. The ‘real man’ box is now on
display in the Riverside Building which allowed students
to submit their thoughts on what makes a real man in
today’s world.
