HND FITNESS STUDENTS ‘SPIN TO WIN’ As part of the Event Management unit of their course HND Fitness students organised ‘Spin to Win’. The event aimed to raise awareness amongst staff and students about how physical activity can benefit mental health. Since merging to become Ayrshire College this was the first student event which encompassed a cross-campus competitive element, i.e. which could raise the most money. an overall total of £700 was donated to mental health charity SAMH Two spin bikes placed in central locations in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Kilwinning campuses over a period of three days. Students and staff paid £1.00 to cycle as far as possible in two minutes. Students also devised a true or false quiz about common physical and mental health myths, this was very popular and more suited to those who didn’t want to take part in the physical element. Free health MOTs (BMI, blood pressure, etc.) were available, which a number of staff and students took advantage of. Ayr Campus raised the most and an overall total of £700 was donated to mental health charity SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health). A cheque was presented to them by the students and the Principal.
