Visit Scotland’s official website describes
Scotland as “the home of golf”, and
the land in which one of the most
prestigious tournaments in golf, ‘The Open
Championship,’ was formed in 1860 in
Ayrshire.
The top 3 golf courses in Ayrshire
according to the Top100Golfcourses
website are:
• Royal Troon
• Trump Turnberry Ailsa Course
• Prestwick Golf Club
According to Golftoday’s website all three
courses have played host to The Open
Championship Tournament with Prestwick
Golf Club being the host 24 times, Royal
Troon 8 times and Turnberry hosting 4

Ayrshire Gold Scotland listed some
package deals on offers to golfers in
Ayrshire.
They include GOLF PASSES - which let
visitors to Ayrshire take advantage of
cut-rate prices at the local courses - and
GOLF PACKAGES - which are provided by
24
Ayrshire Scotland partner tour operators
‘Ayrshire Golf Tours’ and ‘Golf Holidays
Worldwide’.
One example of a golf package they
provide is a two-night stay at a partner
hotel of Ayrshire Golf Scotland and 3

The Tourism Intelligence Guide Scotland
explains that the busiest months with
international visitors coming to Scotland to
play golf are between May and September,
which is best described as British
Summertime. Domestic golfers usually play
all year round.
According to the Tourism Intelligence
Guide Scotland, the three main
international markets of visitors coming to
Scotland to play golf are Scandinavia, USA
and Germany - although German visitors
will tend to golf in the east of Scotland.
Accommodation popular with visitors
coming to Scotland varies.
Those from the USA tend to prefer 5-star
hotels or resorts, whereas domestic
tourists and Scandinavian visitors are
described by the Tourism Intelligence
Guide Scotland as “budget conscious” and
more likely choose 3 or 4-star rated hotels.
On average, visitors stay in Scotland to
play golf for 3-4 days.
