“I first attended Kilwinning Campus back
in 2008 when, after suffering from anxiety
attacks, I gained enough confidence to enrol
on a hairdressing course. There were some
make-up elements within the course, and
it was my lecturers who encouraged me to
“
pursue this, rather than hairdressing.
Choosing make-up was such a great decision,
as I really learned a lot from my course, and
have enjoyed it so much. When I was given the
opportunity to enter the Illamasqua Distinction
in Make-Up Artistry Awards, I was pretty nervous
about going down to London. I planned ahead and
visited the venue the day before to get my bearings,
which helped to calm me down a bit. When it
came to presentation day I had to work in front of
some of the people I idolise in the industry such
as the Creative Director of Illamasqua. I could
barely take my eyes off the judges at the start, but
I managed to gain my composure and soon I was
so focused on my work, I forgot they were there!
Winning the Student Category was an amazing
experience and I was over the moon! After
struggling for so long with panic attacks, which
some days saw me have to force myself to go to
college, I know now it was worth it; it helped
to boost my confidence, and has given me so
many opportunities for the future. My advice to
anyone in a similar position is to go for it! You
have nothing to lose and everything to gain!”
