You can learn new skills, increase your confidence, get up to date references and relevant work experience, meet new people and get the ‘feel good factor’. You can also get recognised for your achievements. The Saltire Awards is a national programme designed for young people aged between 12 and 25 who take part in volunteering. There are four sections to the Awards - Challenge, Approach, Ascent and Summit. Young people who have achieved the ‘Ascent’ may have the opportunity to become Saltire Ambassadors. Ambassadors will be involved in the Saltire Awards on every level from promotional and publicity activities through to decision making roles. The Saltire Awards are supported and endorsed by the Scottish Government. Find out more at www.saltireaward.org.uk The South Ayrshire Volunteer Awards are also available for volunteers over the age of 25 who have made a large contribution to their community through volunteering. Anyone can volunteer. If you have a couple of hours a week to spare and feel ready to make a commitment, then the benefits to you and your community are fantastic. Regardless of your background or experience, volunteering offers you the chance to use your existing skills or maybe learn some new ones. THE STUDENT VOICE: EDITION 1 23
