//ONLINE TIPS FOR YOUR STAY SAFE ONLINE Ayrshire College knows how important it is for students to connect, collaborate and communicate online but remember that your digital footprint will remain online for others to see and that you personally are accountable for your posts. ALWAYS be aware of yours and others’ digital footprints If you’re posting photos, always ask the permission of the people in the photo CHECK your privacy settings regularly CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS REGULARLY Always lock your computer or device when you walk away from it Remember that how you represent yourself online is an extension of yourself. The internet doesn’t forget. Search engines can pick up posts years later. TREAT everyone with respect at all times when online If you come across inappropriate material that makes you feel uncomfortable, or is not respectful, inform your parent/guardian or teacher. Most networks have clear ways of reporting inappropriate content. Make an effort to understand the reporting functions. Be AWARE of Copyright Laws Always THINK before you post Ayrshire College encourages all students to consider their posts carefully and always be aware of theirs, and others’ digital footprints. 14 THE STUDENT VOICE: EDITION 1
