STUDENT ELECTIONS 2015 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW elections are conducted properly and fairly. The returning officer can appoint deputies to help out with the running of the elections. This year the returning officer is Ann Heron, who is Head of Quality Engagement within Ayrshire College. Why should I vote? The presidents chosen by you will act on your behalf, that’s why it’s important that you choose a candidate who wants to improve the things that are important to you. Each candidate will have a different idea about how they will go about enhancing your experience at college therefore it’s important that you get each candidate’s views and choose the candidate that best represents your interests. The student presidents are the main representatives of the student association and they have influence in making a real difference to college life. How do I know who is the best candidate? Throughout the campaign period you will see candidates around the campus, encouraging you to vote for them. Information on candidates will be available on noticeboards, through social media and on the plasma screens. There is also an opportunity to meet the candidates at three Hustings events, which will allow you to question each candidate on their manifesto and what their focus will be for the year ahead. How do I vote? For the first time Ayrshire College Student Association elections are going online. This will make it easier for students THE STUDENT VOICE: EDITION 4 to cast their vote as voting will be available 24/7 during voting week.
