NEW DRUMSTICKS

Music students have helped a
start-up company put its prototype
drumsticks to the test. HNC and
HND Music students helped Fraser
Stone of Stone Drumsticks test
out their new products. Stone
Drumsticks aim to create exciting
products for drummers across a
variety of musical genres.
Fraser Stone has worked in the industry for 17
years and feels he has what it takes to address
a gap in the market. His drumstick company
designs drumsticks for the modern drummer
that combine the desired feel and response of
traditional timber sticks with the precision and
durability of carbon fibre.

The music students spent the morning
testing out the latest drumsticks on kits at their
Ayr Campus studio, before scoring each new
product and providing feedback to Fraser.
David Henderson, HNC Music
student, said “The morning workshop was
really productive. I think Fraser got some great
feedback from a diverse group of drummers
with different abilities. I found some of the
products really surprising but overall it was a
great experience.”
Beta testing products before they are released
for general sale is an invaluable step in the
process, and Fraser’s start-up company is also
embracing the support of the Commercial
Music course at the University of the West
of Scotland.
