SPORTS EQUALITY EVENTS
SPORT AND FITNESS STUDENTS HELD TWO IMPORTANT
EVENTS AT THE KILMARNOCK CAMPUS TO RAISE
AWARENESS OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY.
Two HND classes were behind separate events that took place at
the end of March, which were One Ayrshire - Many Cultures and
#EqualityIsQuality.
Both events were supported by Supporters Direct Scotland.
The first provided information on how to eradicate racism in
sport, while the second was for school pupils from Hillhead
and Loanhead Primary Schools to encourage more females to
participate in sport.
In the week running up to the latter event, we rolled out a social
media campaign using the #EqualityIsQuality hashtag.
Sports stars such as our own Paralympic athlete Kayleigh Haggo,
Dumbarton FC striker Christian Nade and Kilmarnock FC’s
Community Engagement Manager Paul Di Giacomo, spoke about
how to encourage more girls and women into sport.
Sporting activities were laid on for all students and visitors during
these days. A player of the year award was presented at a football
tournament arranged by the One Ayrshire - Many Cultures event,
with Christian Nade announcing the winner.
Megan Sim, HND Sports Coaching student, said “Our event is a
good way for us to show how proud we are of the many cultures
that co-exist within our community. I feel this event helped pull
people together and got students involved in learning about
different cultures.”
