Student Identification Cards At the beginning of the year students are issued a student identification card . This ID card must be worn on a lanyard around the neck by students at all times while on campus and at all school‐related activities and sporting events . ID cards are required for lunch purchases on account and for borrowing media or technology equipment from the Academic Resource Center . Failure to produce an ID card when requested by a school employee or supervising parent / guardian will result in disciplinary sanction .
If a student forgets their ID card , it is there responsibility to report to the Dean of Student Formation before first period for a temporary ID card . If a student comes prior to first period , there will be no consequence . If a student is found not to have an ID card after the beginning of first period , they still must get a temporary ID card and will receive a detention . If a pattern develops of a student not having their ID card , consequences will be assigned even if that student reports to the Dean prior to first period . Temporary ID cards must be returned to the Dean of Student Formation at the end of the school day .
If an ID card is lost , it must be replaced at a $ 10 cost . If an ID card is broken , it must be replaced at a $ 5 cost . Students should make payment for replacement ID cards at the Business Office window and take their receipt to the Technology Office . Replacement ID cards will be available one school day after payment is received .
Electronic Devices and Cell Phones The learning process in a safe , secure Catholic , Christian atmosphere is paramount – anything which prevents such an experience for any or all students will be handled appropriately . To protect the individual ’ s privacy and rights , students are forbidden to take pictures of school employees or other students without their explicit written permission . Posting any pictures on public or private websites without permission may result in suspension and possible expulsion .
Brother Rice reserves the right to confiscate any electronic devices and / or cell phones being used during school hours , being used without permission and / or being used for no educational purpose . If confiscated , the device ( s ) will be taken to the Dean of Student Formation and be placed in the school safe and only an administrator will release it .
Electronic Devices : Brother Rice High School utilizes an iPad system for all its students and faculty . Therefore , non‐approved electronic devices including , but not limited to , smart watches , personal iPads , iPods , tablets and laptops should not be used throughout the school day without permission from the teacher or moderator and should only be used to further the learning process . Students should not access inappropriate websites , play games or participate in other activities that have no connection to education .
Cell Phones : Cell phones are not a requirement of the learning process and are not to be utilized anywhere on campus during school hours . If a student chooses to bring a cell phone to school , it must be turned off and remain out of sight . If a student ’ s cell phone is seen or heard , it may be confiscated even if it was not being used .
Accessing and interacting with a cell phone via Apple watch or other smart watch is not permitted and may result in both devices being confiscated .
Headphones of any type ( over ear , on ear , and in ear ) may not be worn / used during class exchange .
Any student whose device is confiscated will be subject to the following :
First Offense : One ( 1 ) detention and the student ’ s device will be returned at the end of the next school day .
