Why follow Current Events?

“Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you." -Pericles.
Hi! I’m Sarah Smith, and I have the honor of being the Editor of the Current Events section for the wonderful String of Pearls magazine. Current Events, and the politics that go with them, are kind of my thing. I love to know what’s going on around me, whether it be about politics, war, or economics, because then I am empowered to come up with my own opinions and no one can lie to me or brainwash me into thinking something that’s not true. Knowing what goes on in the world around you is not only wise, but necessary for your well-being, your family’s and your future family’s well being, the well being of your country, and even the world’s well being. Current Events are pretty important, to say the least.

To start off with, I've devised two sets of quizzes for you to take to see where how much you know about the world around you.

Quiz #1:

1. Name all of the Avengers.

2. Who was recently cast as the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming film Batman vs. Superman?

3. With whom did Miley Cyrus recently break up?

4. What did Kim Kardashian and Kanye West name their baby

5. Name all five of the One Direction boys.

6. What’s the name of the second Hunger Games book/movie?

7. What’s the name of the Royal Baby?

Quiz #2:

1. What is the Bill of Rights?

2. Who is your state governor?

3. How many state representatives do you have?

4. Who has more power: Congress or the President?

5. If the President cannot finish his term, who becomes President?

6. Is America a Democracy or a Republic?

7. Who are your two state senators?

How many of the first quiz did you get right? How many of the second quiz did you get right? If you got very few of the second quiz right, then you are the average American. To be honest with you, I had to have Wikipedia open while I wrote the quiz, because I was second-guessing myself on the answers. There’s a lot to remember when it comes to politics, and the events that take place because of them. Just because it’s hard, does that mean you should just not even bother in the first place and play Minecraft and watch Duck Dynasty for the rest of your life? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Every issue, I will highlight an event or two that I think everyone should be aware of, because they are important to the welfare of our country and the citizens who inhabit it. Despite what a lot of adults and even more teenagers think, what happens in Congress, and what happens in the White House directly concerns you, your wallet, and, ultimately, the future of your freedom.

"Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content; I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - Phil. 4:11-13
