For Shawn Malburg-Dunn, CON BSN ’05, philanthropy began as a first generation
college student while raising funds for the HOPE (Helping Other People Excel)
scholarship. The moment the scholarship was awarded she learned a valuable life
lesson; it’s in giving that we receive. It’s not the size of the gift that matters; it’s
the impact you can make on a student’s life.
The Gifts of an Excellent Education
Malburg-Dunn experienced the power
of nursing while in high school watching
dedicated nurses care for her mother after
a car accident. She went on to volunteer
at a local hospital. It was her aunt who
encouraged her to go to college, saying, “No
one can take your education away from you.”
Dunn credits her Spartan Nursing
education with her solid foundation for life
and diverse career opportunities. “Education
is where we learn, grow, change, and gain
new perspectives on the world and the lens
through which we see it.”
