As part of MSU’s Empower Extraordinary Capital Campaign, the College has set four major goals. TRANSLATING MSU DISCOVERING ENHANCING GIVE & SHINE THE LIGHT ACHIEVING ACCELERATING PREPARING GROWING Strengthen the Path to Discovering New Knowledge: $5 million Spartan Nurses Bring Life, Knowledge, and Improved Health to Michigan and the World Together We Can Empower Extraordinary Throughout your entire life, nurses will play a vital role. Directly or indirectly they touch you personally or your loved ones. A nurse is there for you as one of the first to care for you at your birth to holding your hand when it is your time to pass on. 28 From educators to researchers to practitioners, each individual is an essential part of the Life Ray. Be part of the effort to grow our reach as we prepare nurses to play increasingly vital roles in research, healthcare leadership, and primary care. Advance the Preparation of BSN Nurses for the Future: $2.1 million In our highly competitive and productive nursing research culture, faculty across all ranks receives support from five different NIH Institutes. Together we can: The IOM Report calls for 80% of nurses to be baccalaureate-prepared by 2020. Together, we can: • Endow chairs and professorships to accelerate our research momentum and build a strong research faculty. • Offer fellowships to promising PhD students to grow the next generation of researchers. • Endow scholarships to help clinical nursing students in need of financial assistance. • Endow scholarships for international service, learning and research. • Endow funds to provide faculty with innovative teaching methodologies. Accelerate the Translation of Knowledge to Improve Care: $1.75 million Contact Eric Sturdy, Jr., Director of Development, to learn how your gift can transform a life. [email protected] (517) 432-1187 Help Overcome Economic and Educational Barriers to Nursing Education: $5.25 million As the population ages and more people have access to care, we can close the 15year gap between original research and the implementation of evidence-based practice at the bedside at all nursing levels. Together, we can: A gift to the College is a gift to improve outcomes in chronic illness, healthy lifestyles, and the health and well-being of individuals and families. An increasingly diverse population needs a nursing workforce that can communicate with and serve a diverse range of patients in urban communities. Together, we can: • Endow scholarships and fellowships to attract academically competitive students at all levels and immerse them in evidence-based practice. • Support programming to champion healthcare policy and operational changes to achieve sustainable improvements in healthcare outcomes for patients and families. • Inspire and support economically and educationally disadvantaged students in their pursuit of a nursing career. A Symbol for Nursing’s Spectrum of Care The essence of Spartan Nursing’s transformative approach to healthcare has been captured in Life Ray, the art installation by Katy Stone that fills the Granger Atrium in the Bott Building for Nursing Education and Research. The artwork symbolizes illumination, reach, and movement— the core values of our College of Nursing. The trajectory of growth and life is depicted in vibrant green leafy shapes that converge harmoniously as they flow downward, while their upward acceleration represents the journey of education and life.
