the expressed purpose of Haynes’ trip to TX2K—thus the now-infamous “LMBOKLR” Mississippi license plate on the back of his GTR. But incredibly, Haynes built his ride for much more than drag strip use. “When I first got the car I never imagined taking it to this level,” he admits. “At first it was just bolt-on parts, but then I started getting more and more serious about it.” Serious is a considerable understatement at this point considering Haynes’ GT-R is outfitted with Alpha Racing’s A16 performance package, capable of delivering over 1,650-horsepower while maintaining total drivability. “The car literally drives like a stock one. I even let my girlfriend drive it, and she had no problem—I just didn’t let her get into the power band!” Haynes, who pushed the boost up to 45 psi for the final against “Mullet” (and likely beyond the aforementioned 1,650-horsepower mark), used a string of 199-mph runs down Royal Purple Raceway to earn his way to the final and took the win with a 196.27-mph blast. Laughing, he admits, “I’m just happy we lived up to that license plate.” - KEVIN COX WINTER2016 93
