Schoneck, a well-known name in hardcore drag racing circles for his time spent competing in the National Mustang Racers Association – was more than satisfied with the 870rwhp his unique supercar produced. “This is just a stock 5.4-liter DOHC engine with a F1A-94 ProCharger on E85,” says Schoneck, noting the car had previously made 1,466-horsepower to the wheels with the previous Manley connecting rod and Bryant crankshaft-equipped engine. “We wanted to freshen things up and try some new stuff, but I didn’t want the good weather to get away from me so we just put a stock motor back in the car for now. We’ll have the big ProCharger F1X back on it soon and look to crack the 1,500-horsepower mark.” Interestingly enough, Schoneck has equipped the car with Holley’s electronic fuel injection system and has been able to massively improve the performance of even the stock engine – turning it 7,900 RPM while from the factory the car features a 6,200 RPM rev limiter. “She sings a tune,” he says. “Believe me.” - WES BUCK 88 STREETRACE
