Street Car Takeover’s Hot Start TOPEKA OL’ YELLER Here at STREET/RACE Magazine we are more than just editors and photographers. Just like you, our readers, we spend countless hours in the garage working on our cars and racing them anywhere. In fact, SRM founder and editor in chief Wes Buck brought out his twin-turbocharged, 1,000-plus whp C6 Corvette to compete in the SCT Roll Racing event at Heartland Park Topeka, where he finished runner-up in the final round. SPECIAL VEHICLE This is no ordinary K5 Chevy Blazer. Nicknamed “Open Container,” this thing has no roof, no hood and a full roll cage, immediately making you want to know more about this crazy machine. Missouri’s Kari Bahus didn’t let being a paraplegic stop him from being able to race. When building the bitchin’ Blazer, he had a full throttle and brake hand control integrated next to the steering wheel to give him full reign. The powerplant in this beast is a Chevy 454 that pushes out about 700 hp. All that power is run through an air-shifted automatic transmission that allows Bahus to run low 11-second passes in the quarter mile or drive it on the street whenever and wherever he pleases. CHARLOTTE Well-known HOT ROD Drag Week participants Eric Yost and Doug Cline were in attendance at Street Car Takeover’s first visit to Charlotte. Yost’s rustedwrapped Camaro brings the look of a junker, but in reality is a clean, fullybuilt street car. It put down over 1,200 hp to the wheels on the mobile dyno Friday night and raced in multiple classes at zMAX Dragway on Saturday, including roll racing. 42 STREETRACE DECEPTIVE DECOR Meanwhile, Cline’s Camaro makes more than 2,200 hp and can lay down 7-second, quarter-mile passes with ease. He was just running test-n-tune at zMAX, though, getting the car dialed in and ready for Rocky Mountain Race Week.
