The biggest crisis that the youth of today lack , is the lack of identity . Technology has penetrated into our minds and has taught us that everything and anything is possible ( which is true ) but what technology does not teach us , is that a career is built through character . So with the exposure that technology has given us , the youth of today have dreamt , big and awesome dreams .
Most us are ambitious but we really lack the courage . But the biggest challenge we face as youth is we do not have an identity . The identities we claim we have are those that we see on TV , Instagram and Facebook and other social media platforms . As a result you come across many young people who imitate the likes of the Beyoncé ’ s , Casper Nyovest and the Jah Prayzahs of today .
As a result when all grown up and mature we now deviate from the so called acts that we thought we our dreams and become who we really are . Take for instance , one grows up as a gospel singer but changes to become a dancehall singer , literally because they do not feel like gospel is what they should do . Dream and Jive steps in now to give the young people a chance to shine and be the best people that they can be on stage , particularly with their talents . The talent show is designed to help the youths who believe they have talent and expose them to the world that they want to dominate in , be it in music , drama , poetry , and visual arts .
The ground breaking dream and jive talent show was held at Harare gardens Theatre in the park , on Friday the 18th of August , where participants were competing for two track recording deals , a trip to Victoria Falls and a video filming contract with LIFEWALK TV . The participants were mainly from the music department , where we had group performances , solos and dance performances . The performances where off the hook or breath taking rather , Dale lipha Gondo opened the stage with an awesome performance , where he did freestyle and his bars were off the hook , his main song that he performed on the day is called “ different ” he says the inspiration behind his music is the mere fact that everyone is different , everyone is unique in their own way , and he loves to encourage people that being different is not a bad thing , being different is a beautiful thing that when it is embraced it will bear good fruits “ I like to be real about life , look past about bring fake , trying to put a cherry on a false cake ’’.
Kombai Matonhodze , one of our musicians blessed the audience with a beautiful musical performance , where he performed with his own instruments that he made , he had a dimbwa and nyere which he said to have made himself .
His performance reminded the audience of Africa before the colonial era , where everything was handmade , and entertainment instruments were made from wood .
In the entertainment sector we had awesome poetic performances from Tendai , where his poem was about education . He taught the youths in the house the importance of education “ muyimbi ane voice , akanaka , asi muyimbi anechikoro mukaka ” were part of his words . Students in the house also came in and entertained the audience with awesome dance skills . The judges SaMukoko and Patience Masiyambiri were excited about the talent that these young people had , and encouraged them to keep at it , and make their dreams come true . At the end of the day everyone was happy , not only did the participants walk away with prizes but it was a day well spent .
