As a young woman in the modern day 21st century , born in an era about feminism and women ' s rights , gender equality and celebrations like women ' s month , one has to have a few questions they ' d like answered from kindred spirits , women . So I summed up a few of my thoughts , ones I thought possibly almost every woman would be affected by and I asked some of the most influential women in my life and the society a large . So the following bit is a reflection of some , but not all of my thoughts spiced up with some other beautiful ladies '. Just what I believe is paramount and affects almost every society . So here goes .
It saddens me that when most people define a woman its always in comparison with a man , but maybe it makes sense since that ' s the only other human species . At the same time it gives me great pleasure to know that a woman is a unique being . A fulfiller of dreams and destinies , fruitfully births and bares humanity as a whole . Delicate and fragile as some may call her , she a strong willed being who is more than capable to embrace her feminity and defy all odds that rise against her . She is a simple of greatness , one to look up to and admire . The only reason anyone should look down at her is to admire her * amazing * shoes , cause trust me , she wears then better than anyone else could .
At the same time she is able to bear deep scars and emotions , to conceal or flaunt them , but either way that does not fully define her . She is not * defined * by what people think of her , how the world views her or how a man sees her , how another woman gazes upon her but she is * SELF DEFINED *. Whether born with a bright or bleak future ahead of her she shines bright , like the diamond she is through it all . She wages through life making choices that * define * her . But see , through it a woman is a selfless being , loving and kind . She cares for all who come and go , love * defines * her . For her its not about reaching the stars but taking those around her with her , all the way to indefinable places . She is not spiteful but treads lightly around those who don ' t wish her well , that * defines * her . Sadly society has painted women in power and authority as animals who feed on the flesh of other human brings , and fellow women too . What a misconception .
The woman in the 21st century still has a lot to fight for . Yes she ' s come a long way and the strides she ' s made can ' t be denied , neither can the ones she still has to make . Even after equal rights movements and the right to vote , there is still less representation of the modern day woman in circles such as business and politics . Allow me to share some of the 1970 struggles of women in our beloved Zim
" To my knowledge we have come a long way in our function and roles in society breaking through some former cultural backgrounds and barriers . The mentality in the role for women was limited to function and work within the home and now it is acceptable to see women working and employed outside the home . In many societies like Zim prior to Independence women were not allowed to have their own personalized Identification called " isithupha " now we can all be equally equipped with individual IDs .
Women ' s voice is equally heard and accepted in many societies and we have had women appointed as leaders of nations and organizations that comprise of male and female . Most careers and jobs now offer opportunities to both man and women , no longer non inclusive of women . The high school I went to at the time in the early 1970s only offered 6 female students to do the O ' Level Physical Science subject out of about a120 mixture of 60 boys and 60 girls . So the rest of the female students had to do Domestic Science . We as girls openly verbally protested to the unfairness of limitations for girls leaving them with no other options for a future career in Sciences . We as girls also felt this was a gender issue assumption that most girls need to do O ' level Domestic Science ( now called Home Economics ).
We struggled with that mentality of creating a barrier for females and actually wanting to force train them with a focus and a gain on a lesson home based by taking Domestic Science . We voiced out our feelings and thoughts as to why couldn ' t boys be also offered Domestic Science or Capentry or brickwork at an O ' level . Even if it was not feasible to make a change for our group that year but sure Glad our voice was heard at my High School because the following year all girls were privy to the option of taking Science subjects . Even better today boys have the option to do Home Economics at most Schools which is also now acceptable to the current society but never was when I was growing up ."
