Eco Council News
After discussing
the ‘Keep Britain
Tidy’ website, the
eco council were
inspired to complete
a litter pick at
lunchtime. They found a surprising
amount of tissues and plastic wrappers
around the school fi eld and even in our
wildlife area. The eco council would
like to share this with the school in an
upcoming assembly to remind children
to use the bins and protect our school
environment.
New after school club is a hit!
Boxercise
After taster sessions, we had to draw
names out of a hat to see who would
be given the opportunity to try this
exciting new club. In the sunshine, the
children quickly donned gloves and
pads to begin working on sequences of
punches. The pictures give you an idea
of just how much fun this activity is.
Robins Visit to Banham Zoo
Robins (our Reception Class) had a
fantastic day out recently at Banham
Zoo. We could not have asked for
nicer weather. The children were
complimented on their great listening
and attention during our educational
sessions and throughout the visit! Miss
Well Being Week
was GREAT!!!
Leeks was very proud of them all and
it was lovely to see how much they
had remembered from our class topic
in our talk; Charlie the leader was so
impressed with their knowledge.
Gardening Club New s
Our industrious
gardeners have been
busy planting rows of
onion sets! We look
forward to see the
end results later in
the year.

A number of the children who plan
to join us in September have started
to come to our weekly play session
run by Katie Graham every Thursday
from 2-3pm. There is no charge for this
session which provides a wide range
of activities for babies and children
from 0 – 4 years old. Whether you are
joining us or not, if you have a little

Cedars Park Primary School News
Science week at Cedars Park
11th – 15th March 2019
Cedars Park Primary School children
celebrated Science week by having some
slightly unusual guests to stay for the
week.
2 micro pigs named Penny and Rosie
visited the school. Children gained
fi rst-hand experience of pig care and
engaged in a range of pig themed
8
activities all supporting Science,
Technology, Engineering and Maths
(STEM) learning.
Headteacher, Mr Emms, is thrilled to be
able to offer the children at Cedars Park
Primary School this unique opportunity
stating, “Staff and children are once
again looking forward to National
Science and Technology Week. The
arrival of the micro pigs will inspire our
learning in science and across the wider
curriculum.”
Children took part in some animal
husbandry, such as giving new hay
and straw and helping groom or feed
the pigs from outside the pens. They
designed and made enrichment toys,
containing treats, to keep them happy
and stimulated during their stay. Children
also considered how pigs have adapted
to their environment and how breeds

What a truly
wonderful week our
Well Being Week
proved to be. Here
are some examples from our week:
MONDAY was all about GIVING!
Early Years children made kindness
tokens to put on their kindness tree-
something that made everyone smile!
KS1 children pledged acts of kindness.
LKS2 children made fl owers, writing
on the back their messages for the
recipient before giving them the fl ower
UKS2 children wrote letters of thanks
to the local community/individuals,
with some delivering them in person
After School: Mind health & Well Being
Workshop for parents.
TUESDAY was all about RELATING
Early Years, LKS2 & UKS2 children
made biscuits and shared an afternoon
tea together.
KS1 children sang and chatted with
the residents of Uvedale and Hurstlea
Court who always ‘really look forward
‘to our visits, particularly hearing the
children sing. The residents at Hurstlea
have changed over time. Animal Welfare
Consultant, Toni Calvert, shared her
knowledge about how pigs are reared
for us to eat and named some more
unusual products that originate from a
pig. She believes that ‘The micro pigs
are a great opportunity for the children
to learn how to look after animals. It
is good to get the children interested
in STEM subjects through practical
experiments.’
Can pigs actually fl y? STEM Ambassador,
John Jones, explored forces through
designing, making and launching
paper pig rockets. Meanwhile, some
classes utilised their knowledge about
even collected some money, donating
£55 towards music in school-for which
we are very grateful. We plan to put
the money towards resources for our
Choir. After School: Family Yoga.
WEDNESDAY was all about
EXERCISE
Children across the school took
part in exercise sessions run by our
coaches-Tai Chi and Boxercise proved
immensely popular with the children-
and staff! Many children also had
yoga sessions back in their classes too.
THURSDAY was all about
Appreciation & Appreciating Me!
EYFS & KS1 children used a song, ‘I am
Special’ to help inspire them to create
a Celebration of Me poster/book.
LKS2 & UKS2 children used the This is
Me, Greatest Showman song to inspire
posters, powerpoints and poems
celebrating themselves.
After School: Family Yoga. What the
children chose to create and write
really stopped others in their tracks-
they shared such beautiful things!
FRIDAY was all about Trying
Something New!
…and boy did the day start with
a bang! James started the day off
introducing the circus skills, children
from the entire school would have
the opportunity to try throughout
the day. The children were so excited
and many shared this day to be their
favourite. Children also tried skills such
as playing the ukulele and knitting. I
would like to extend a huge thank you
to the Mind Health Team at Bosmere:
Mrs Cridge, Mrs Pardue, Mrs Way and
Miss Green. Their work alongside Gillian
Clarke (huge thanks to you, Gillian)
pulled this week together and it truly
was of benefi t to everyone!
We are now working on ensuring the
messages from the week continue
to permeate life at Bosmere and are
continuing to plan what we offer
to children, staff and our school
community to help promote good
mind health. Watch this space!
electricity to make motorised fl ying pigs.
In maths lessons children undertook
some measurements based on the vital
statistics of a pig. The new data loggers
(purchased by the PTA) were also used
to compare sound data and answer our
question ‘Who are the noisiest – pigs or
children?’
In addition, children studied a variety of
pig themed texts within reading lessons.
This ranged from the fairy tale of ‘The
Three Little Pigs’ in Key Stage One, to
‘Pig-Heart Boy’ by Malorie Blackman
(which explores the questions raised by
animal organ donation), in Upper Key
Stage Two.
