Horticultural Society
In March members enjoyed a talk from
Simon White, Centre Manager at Peter
Beale’s Roses, Attleborough. Simon
shared his encyclopaedic knowledge
of “the nation’s favourite fl owers”
with great enthusiasm. We learnt a lot
about maintaining good health and
ways to present this versatile plant
that will fl ower for 10 months of the
year. Members were quick to purchase
the bare rooted plants and sundries
Simon brought with him. Simon is
pictured, along with Macmillan Nurse,
a Peter Beale’s rose, and possibly the
best rose they have ever introduced.
Membership of the Society is growing;
with new and returning members
booking for the fi rst of our outings to
RHS Hyde Hall in May.
In April we welcome John Foster
talking about The Spring Garden.
We meet at Needham Market
Community Centre on the fi rst
Thursday of the month at 7:30pm.
Other subjects for 2019 are Dry
gardens and drought resistant plants;
Butterfl ies and plants that attract them
and Weeds!

What are the fi rst steps
I should take when
divorce is unavoidable?
Mary Cleaver
Just pause for a
moment; are you sure
that you are ready to
make a decision that
will affect the rest
of your life? If the
answer is yes, then
read on.
The fi rst step is to consider whether
there is an alternative to divorce
and you may fi nd that professional
counselling services can help you
with this. Just a cursory search on
the internet throws up the service
offered by Relate and any number
of private practitioners. If divorce is
inevitable, the next job is to locate
your marriage certifi cate since you
need the certifi cate to start divorce
proceedings. If you can’t fi nd it, a
copy can be ordered from the General
Register Offi ce via the gov.uk website
– the following link will assist you with
this https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-
birth-death-marriage-certifi cate. The
highest priority must be given to any
children since despite your relationship
with your spouse failing, you will need
to co-parent and work together going
forward. A practical piece of advice is
to keep a diary since it can be hard to
recall what has happened and when,
and it may be useful later on. The
next priority is your fi nancial future
post-divorce: make a list of your assets,
liabilities and income and outgoings
as best you can, and gather together
paperwork relating to your fi nances. It
is vital that you don’t access, remove
or copy your spouse’s confi dential
information. This isn’t permitted by
the courts and could have far-reaching
consequences for you. Finally, I
recommend consulting a lawyer early
on, even if the outcome is that you
are directed towards mediation. It is
extremely important to understand the
process and what is involved so that
you can plan how to move forward.
Every couple is different and what
might have been the solution for a
friend might not be the best for you.
