visit to Cedrus House The gardens are coming alive at Red
Gables with fl owers and blossom
appearing on the trees and a big
increase in birdsong. This past month has
found us applying for a Carbon Charter
mark from the Suffolk Climate Change
Partnership. This involved an assessment
of all that we do at Red gables and our
approach to environmental issues both
inside and outside the building.
The Garden Project enjoyed a day
learning how to weave willow into
a variety of shapes. This session was
delivered by Victoria from Groundwork
East. We have also seen three new raised
beds built which will be used to grow
vegetables throughout the year as part
of our Healthy Eating Project. Thanks
to Stowmarket Meadlands Men’s Shed
project for building them.
Tesco’s Bags of Help funding enabled
another children’s Wild Play session to
take place. This saw children making

use of the Spinney to go bug hunting,
hammock swinging and foraging for
materials to make leaf crowns.
Martyn Burnside was greeted by a
surprise birthday celebration which was
carefully planned by staff and tenants to
mark the occasion.
There are new signs around car park to
remind users about safety and outside
to help newcomers to fi nd their way to
Red Gables.
We are delighted to be inviting Brian
Thurlow back to Red Gables on Saturday
6th April. Brian will be narrating a story
of happy times as an evacuee from
London, coming to live on a farm in
East Anglia. The show is called “We’ll
meet Again” and follows the story of
a Pearly King from Bethnal Green and
the comparison of life in the country
with life in the Blitz. Tickets for this can

Stowmarket and District Flower Club
The Flower Club is holding a workshop
on Saturday 6th April from 10 am to
3.30 pm at Stowmarket Community
Centre, Hillside, Stowmarket, IP14
2BD. The workshop is free of charge,
and being taken by a well-known and
talented demonstrator, Adele Kent.
All you will need to bring is a pair of
secateurs and your choice of fl owers
and foliage. If you are interested,
please contact Caroline Barnes, Club
Chairman, on 01449 720907, as
places are limited. Don’t miss this
opportunity to learn from an expert
for free!! The Club’s April meeting
on Wednesday April 24th at Woolpit
Village Hall will be another chance to
learn some tips and hands-on practice.

Jumble Sale

2019 at 2pm. In addition to Jumble

Cakes, Draw, Bric-a-Brac and Tombola.

served at this event. Proceeds for
Stowupland Chapel. Please come and
