CHAPTER FIVE: ART AND NARRATIVE
A) THE CUT
The original art piece was the Tropics from a European
standpoint. It was cut in half with a circular saw. The artist
made the decision with to spark discussion of the relationship
between painting and action.
or
B) CUT OUT
Condemning his work as an artist and cutting ties to classical
artwork this piece was created as a final piece in this artist’s
portfolio. This artist used this piece as a final salute to his
classical counterparts and out of frustration for the medium
and the artist community he used a circular saw to slice into his
work and cut himself out of the genre.
or
C) GOUGE
The piece you’re looking at is a ready-made artwork. The
original artist of the painting is unknown, however, after careful
study, it is believed to have been a student. The artist cut the
work up to symbolize the disregard and loss of ownership. The
cut into the artwork and wall are indicative of the relationship
that no longer exists between its original creator.
