CHAPTER FIVE: ART AND NARRATIVE A) DON’T CROSS THE BRIDGE BEFORE YOU GET TO THE RIVER This artwork is representative of a project where a group of children carrying shoe-boats left Europe towards Morocco, while the second line of kids with shoe-boats left Africa in the direction of Spain. The two lines of children met on the horizon. or B) SAILED REFLECTION With a passion for sailing, this artist created an interactive art installation where he invited the gallery guests to create a shoe sail boat from different textiles. This shot was taken early in the process of the installation and it is expected to grow until the show ends late April. or C) STEPS AWAY FROM THE RIVER Representative of a project that took place in Africa these shoe boats are indicative of a struggle for poverty ridden children who have to walk far distances to gather water. The boats created were to resemble hope for the future. After releasing these shoe-boats into the river, the children participating had a genuine glimpse of hope for their future in their eyes.
