Stories Through Sound
For centuries music has taught, expressed and united
communities through the sharing of story. Each song
whether it’s a drum circle in Ghana or a dive bar
in the Lower East Side - tells a story. With the
invention of the phonograph the ability to record
a sound for replay became possible. In 1877 Thomas
Edison created the phonograph during his work on two
other inventions, the telephone and the telegraph.
About seven decades later Columbia Records releases
the first ever, successful microgroove plastic,
12-inch, 33-1/3 LP. Played on a record player,
these discs were the beginning of a music industry
explosion. With many different ways of listening to
music in 2017, vinyl records are still going strong.
With an unprecedented 53% raise in sales with over
3.2 million in vinyl sales, it is apparent that
music lovers around the world are committed to the
authenticity of hearing their favourite “stories”
through the needle of a record player.
