Claire Julien The truly exquisite Claire Julien is the daughter of academy award-winning cinematographer, Wally Pfister. The talented actress is on the verge of making her own impact in cinema with the motion picture, The Bling Ring. Claire seems destined to prove that in her family, cinematic greatness is commonplace. What effect has your father’s successful cinematography career had on your current acting path? It had a huge effect on my career; I grew up on sets and I saw everything from behind the camera. It gave me an advantage because I’m comfortable and I know what is going to happen on a set. I understand the crew and understand we are all working for one goal...we are all working to make a beautiful movie. Your very first acting job in cinema was The Dark Knight Rises. Was working on a huge comic book franchise like that overwhelming at all? That was one of my dad’s sets [her father served as cinematographer] so going on to it I had no idea what was going to happen. I went because I always have loved being on set. I came on for a couple of days just to have fun and see different aspects of the film industry. One day Christopher Nolan [director of Dark Knight Rises] saw me and threw me into the film. It was completely unexpected, but so much fun. What was your experience like working with acclaimed director Sofia Coppola on the The Bling Ring? She was unbelievable! She is so creative and brilliant. Sofia is very quiet...so when she speaks everyone listens, because everything she says is extremely valuable. Her insight is always creative and intelligent. Working with her...I’m so proud...I’m really happy to have worked with such a wonderful female director.
