THE ESSENTIALS What she is looking forward to this summer: Dexter The head turning starlet, Aimee Garcia, has been performing in some capacity practically since birth. The Chicago born actress first fell in love with the art form at the age of three when she attended a live performance of the classic musical Annie. “I remember watching and instantly falling in love with the actors on stage. It just touched me.” What does it take to make it as an actress in Hollywood? To be great at anything you have to invest your most valuable resource, which is time. We only have a limited amount of time. If you don’t apply that time to honing your craft you will never be able to compete at the highest level. I’m an all or nothing girl. The day I moved to LA I had no backup plan. I’ve never had another job in LA but acting. Does dealing with rejection get any easier when it comes to not getting casted in something? That’s heartbreaking when you really love a project and you are too short, or too tall, or whatever. The more I do this...you realize it’s the same everywhere...it’s not just acting. This may be arrogant, but why would you want to work with someone who doesn’t get you? When you work with someone it’s like a relationship. If it doesn’t work out, it probably wasn’t meant to be. You are a cast member of the cable program Dexter. The final season airs this summer; what can you tell us about it? This season is the beginning of the end for this epic series. It’s not going to fade to black like the finale of The Sopranos. I always joke around and tell fans that one of the writers for the show has a temperature controlled room full of comic books. That’s the kind of guy you want writing your series finale. I think we are in very good hands.
