The Tomorrow People The Tomorrow People, a remake of a British show from the 1970s, premieres this October on the CW network. This sci-fi based series focuses on a generation of humans born with paranormal abilities. The young actor Robbie Amell stars as Stephen Jameson, a teen that is starting to experience some strange and quite disturbing occurrences in his life. Robbie fills us in about the exciting new show, his own personal hero and a friendly family rivalry with a television superhero. How would you describe The Tomorrow People? It’s kind of like Heroes or the X-Men [movies]. It’s about finding out you have superpowers…learning how to use them…accidently using them…and honing your skills. That’s really what the beginning is going to be about and hopefully we will have fun with that. Did you pull inspiration from anywhere for your role? Before the pilot, I talked to our pilot’s director, and he told me to go back and watch Donnie Darko, which I hadn’t seen in awhile. My character is kind of like Jake Gyllenhaal in that movie. My character thinks he has mental problems because he is teleporting in his sleep. I pulled a lot from [Donnie Darko]. Do you personally have any favorite superheroes? I’m a massive Batman fan. A die-hard Batman fan. I have been Batman for Halloween probably ten times. I love the movies. I am a fan of some of the comic books. I have always been a huge fan. Your cousin Stephen Amell stars on the popular show Arrow as its title character. Tomorrow People is scheduled to follow his hit program this fall on Wednesday nights. How special is that for you guys? We are both shooting in Vancouver. We share executive producers and stunt coordinators. The shows will be paired together so I will get to spend sometime with him and have some family around when I am shooting. Is there any competition brewing between you guys over whose show will do better in the ratings? He seems to think so [laughing]. I couldn’t be happier about our timeslot. I don’t care if we don’t get the same ratings as Arrow, but if we can keep the show going for like 7 years I will be real happy. What are your goals or expectations for The Tomorrow People? There are so many ways the show can go. I know in the original series there was time travel. There is a lot of storyline to explore. I love our head writer and executive producers. I trust that they will create a really fun and incredible show.
