I work at the Charter High School for Architecture and Design in Philadelphia , PA . I am very fortunate to be able to incorporate STEAM with the Design Thinking curriculum that we use in our school . As an artist and a veteran teacher , I enjoy using my artistic background to create a very unique environment for my students to experience design incorporating STEAM ideas , merging the best of each category throughout my courses I teach .
One of my main foci , 3D printing , helped me with receiving the 2016 Pennsylvania Art Education Association Outstanding Secondary Art Educator of the Year , as well as becoming a 2016 Ultimaker 3D Printers ’ Pioneer Program Fellow . I am also a MakeyMakey Ambassador , whose job it is to promote making and expand the learning through MakeyMakey and MakeyMakey Go . The reason I mention these accolades is my merging off all of these new technologies , and overlapping within the confines of my classes .
I try to capture a Growth Mindset with any of the projects that I use to teach design , since my beginning class , Maker Technologies , focuses on learning basic concepts using projects such as LED Throwies , Bristlebots , Papercircuits , and of course conductive group Drawdio drawings and MakeyMakey musical instruments . I try to expand students design education by using STEAM ideas and concepts , and new technologies , such as Ozobots , which are my new learning tools that use
