Warehouse with Brazil nuts at the Foreign Trade Zone , 1945 . Stapleton was the site of the first Foreign Trade Zone in the United States , also known as the Free Port . This image shows an entire warehouse filled with piles of imported Brazil nuts .
The staff at Historic Richmond Town is working diligently to make this fascinating collection fully accessible to the public . More than 120 of the Flamm photographs have already been made available through Historic Richmond Town ’ s Online Collections Database , and additional images are added regularly . With funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities , the curators have recently completed a major project to catalog the entire Herbert A . Flamm photograph collection and place all of the original negatives and prints into individual acid-free sleeves and boxes . The archival-quality storage materials will help to ensure the long-term preservation of these unique photographs and keep this treasured collection safe for future generations .
Stork ’ s Nest Restaurant , January 16 , 1956 . The Stork ’ s Nest was located for many years at 192 Bay Street in Tompkinsville . The restaurant was mentioned in a 1933 newspaper article that identified it as one of three “ alleged speakeasies ” on Staten Island that had filed a complaint against two Prohibition Agents accused of extortion .
