TEACHER RECRUITMENT
AND RETENTION
School leaders report shortages of teachers – particularly in secondary schools and certain
regions of the country – and expect teacher recruitment and retention to be a challenge in the
year ahead. The quality of applications is typically the biggest obstacle to recruiting teachers,
and where teachers are leaving their posts it is most commonly because they are moving to
other schools rather than leaving the profession.
