4 WORKLOAD AND MORALE School leaders expect managing teacher workload to be a challenge over the next 12 months – and at the same time, most feel guilty if they leave work on time and say their family life has been negatively affected by their role. School leaders remain committed to their roles, and the majority expect to be in post for the next three years, but governors are worried that the demands of headship are an obstacle to headteacher recruitment. Nonetheless, school leaders have not lost sight of their ultimate motivation and aim, with almost all feeling that they have a positive impact on the future prospects of children and young people.
