From 17 April to 12 June 2016, Biennale Donna returns to the Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea in Ferrara, with the presentation of the group show SILENCIO VIVO. Female artists from Latin America, curated by G. Lola Bonora and Silvia Cirelli. Organized by UDI – Unione Donne in Italia in Ferrara and Gallerie d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Ferrara, the event is always one of the most popular events in the artistic calendar, and after the forced outage in 2014, due to the earthquake that struck Ferrara and its exhibition spaces, it can now resume its path of research and exploration of the international women's creativity.

Always attentive to the relationship between art and contemporary society, Biennale Donna focuses on socio-cultural issues, and geopolitical identity that influence the aesthetic contributions of today's view of women artists. In this direction, the festival this year has chosen to reorient its focus on Latin American multifaceted creativity, leading to Ferrara some of the items that best represent this exceptional expressive plurality: Anna Maria Maiolino (Italy-Brazil, 1942), Teresa Margolles ( Mexico, 1963), Ana Mendieta (Cuba 1948 - United States, 1985) and Amalia Pica (Argentina, 1978).

SILENCIO VIVO rediscovers the contamination in the art of topical issues, inquiring about the Latin American situation and identifying the recurring themes, such as the experience of emigration, the resulting dynamics of the military dictatorships, censorship, crime, social balances between the individual and the community, the identity value and the fragility of human relationships.
