ASSOCIATION ARTICLES NEWS Welcome your 2019 STANSW Council Members (continued) Councillor Oriana Miano, Councillor - HSC Study Days, Meet the Markers, Professional Learning Committee, Catholic Education Parramatta Diocese I am currently the Leader of Pathways and Self-Paced Learning at St Luke's Catholic College (K-12). This context allows me to help build the continuum of learning, particularly between Stages 3 and 4, working directly with students as well as coaching teachers. As a chemistry specialist I have a passion for teaching it to all ages, with a key interest in identifying and addressing misconceptions. I have taught junior science as well as Stage 6 Chemistry and Biology for the past 13 years. I have also worked as a science method lecturer and tutor at UNSW since 2014, and am currently Course Con-venor for all Stage 6 Science method courses. As an active, individual member of STANSW since 2006, I’ve been involved in many initiatives, both as a presenter and participant at conferences, workshops and courses. I received a STANSW Distin-guished Service Award in 2014. I have benefited immensely from being part of my professional association. I have been fortunate enough to take part in many high quality professional learning opportunities organised by STANSW. I hope to encourage others, particularly our primary colleagues, to reap the benefits of the different professional learning events offered through STANSW. As a collective group of passionate and col- laborative practitioners, we can work towards the common goal of improving the teaching and learn-ing of science for our students. Councillor Ashley Mulcahy, Councillor; Early Careers, BEEINS., Glenmore Park High School I am very new to Council after having been on the Organising Committee for CONASTA-67. My key interests are Zoology, Entomology and engaging all students in Environmental Education. I have a major goal of expanding STANSW membership, especially in regard to student members. I am hoping that STANSW will continue to be able to expand its community of science teachers, with ever-greater experience and fresh ideas, who can learn from one another. 11 SCIENCE EDUCATIONAL NEWS VOL 68 NO 1
