DEAR FRIENDS ...

We look forward to James Steer ’ s arrival as our new Associate Minister for Internationals . James and his wife Caroline have been serving with OMF International in Bangkok . Our prayer and theirs is that God will continue to use our international work to send gospel workers to the world . We plan to welcome James formally at our service on Sunday 23rd April , but they are moving here a bit before then : please look out for them , and pray for them as they transition to this new work .
We also look forward to Easter itself . We plan to preach the Easter message on Good Friday , both at the 10.00am all-age service and in All Saints ’ garden in the afternoon . On Easter Sunday itself , both at 10.00am and 5.00pm , we will be thinking about the great news of the risen Christ and his agenda for his people . All these events are designed to be easy to bring friends to .
One implication of the Lord ’ s resurrection comes in the last verse of Matthew ’ s gospel : “ And surely I am with you always , to the very end of the age ” ( Matthew 28:20 ). This is a promise to ponder , both for ourselves and our church . As we seek to take the good news to Cambridge and send gospel workers to the world , the risen Jesus is with us !

WHERE WAS GOD WHEN THAT HAPPENED ?

Where was God when that happened ? Is God really in control ? Is God really good ? These questions are almost inevitable for any thoughtful person as they encounter life in our broken world . This short and very readable book by Christopher Ash takes on these questions by unpacking just what the Bible means when it teaches that God is in control . Although the opening couple of chapters – as Christopher lays the groundwork by setting out the alternatives before looking at just what the Bible teaches – can sometimes feel a little dry , the book very quickly brings the reader to see what a comfort it is in the face of suffering to see that God really is in complete control . Not only does this little book very clearly explain a doctrine that many of us will wrestle with , tackling head on questions about evil , suffering , and human decisions , it is truly a deeply pastoral book that will warm your heart . As you read this book it will lead you to find comfort in our wise , patient and sovereign Father who is in control of all things . Read it , and give copies to your friends !
