St. Vincent Education Statistical Digest 2017-2018 | Page 21

Message from the Chief Education Officer - Ms. Beverly Neptune

Accountability has been the buzzword in education for a number of years. Principals, teachers and education officials are all held accountable by our numerous stakeholders in education. As guardians of the education system, we have to rely on accurate data to plan and implement policies that will benefit the children entrusted to our care. It is therefore essential that we all make a concerted effort to ensure that the information provided is reliable and can be validated.

The data collected should be used for diagnostic purposes that will help to improve the teaching and learning situation at educational institutions. Data reporting should not be seen as a mundane task that is merely procedural but one that is purposeful. Schools are therefore encouraged to utilize the data for institutional development in a timely manner. I therefore commend institutional heads for sharing all of the required data in a timely manner with the Education Planning Unit.

The annual Education Statistical Digest provides useful information on the performance of the education system in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It is a very user-friendly publication that is widely available to the general public online.

As the Chief Education Officer, I am proud that we are able to produce our Annual Education Statistical Digest that provides data which helps to improve our transparency and accountability. It is my hope that schools, parents and the general public will make good use of this document.
