The Girl at the New School By Sarah Barberian A girl name Bexley and her family moved away, and Bexley had to change schools. Let’s see what happens… at 6:30 in the morning… “Bexley! It’s time to wake up for school,” called Bexley's Mom from down the hall. “But Mom, do I have to go? I won’t have any friends - it’s in the middle of the year,” said Bexley. “And all the clubs have already started”. “Don’t worry Bexley, you will meet lots of friends,” said her mom. “You are the nicest girl ever.” “Thanks Mom but...” said Bexley. “Don’t worry. Just calm down and talk to people,” said her mom. “There is nothing to be afraid of.” “Mom it’s not that easy!” yelled Bexley. “Have you ever had to join a new school mid way through the school year!” “Stop yelling,” said her mom. “I know you will do great. Now you have to go to catch the bus - it’s 7:45.” “Oh fine, but why can’t you drive me for the first day?” asked Bexley “You will be fine - it’s only a half day. You will be there for two hours,” said her mom. “Ok, bye Mom,” said Bexley. ”Bye Bexley,” said Bexley’s mom. Five minutes later “Ok, here I go onto the big yellow bus,” said Bexley as she took a deep breath. Bexley walked pass this boy that had his hair slicked to the side. “Hi,” said the boy named Xander. “Are you new? I’ve never seen you before.” “Um, yea, I just moved here last week,” said Bexley. “What’s your name?” “My name is Xander, what’s yours?” “My name is Bexley. What grade are you in?” asked Bexley. “I am in 7th grade. What grade are you in?” “I am in 7th grade too! Why are you sitting all alone? Do any of your friends take the bus?” asked Bexley. “None of my friends ride the same bus as me.” said Xander. “You can sit next to me if you want.” “Ok!” said Bexley happily. Bexley and Xander talked for a while until they got to school. “Wow - this school is huge!” said Bexley. “I won’t be able to find any of my classes in this school.” “Don’t worry Bexley, I will help you find them. I am probably in most of them with you,” Said Xander. Art by Alyssa Franczak “Great,” said Bexley. “Ok do you have your schedule yet?” asked Xander. “Yea my first class is in Mr. Gomez’s class,” said Bexley. “Is he nice?” “Oh, don’t worry, he is the nicest teacher,” said Xander. “I am in his class too. I will show you where his class is. Meet me out in the hall after class.” “Ok, let’s go,” said Bexley. One and a half hours later after Bexley’s first class “Where is she?” said Xander impatiently as everyone filed out of the classroom. “Hi Xander,” said Bexley as she walked out the room. “There you are, where have you been?” said Xander. “Mr. Gomez wanted to talk to me after class about what they learned while I wasn’t in this school,” said Bexley.
