Seen on Social Media We just came back from a visit to Melbourne and St Peter's Cathedral had pay- Wave installed all around the Church, wanted $5 to take a photo, $5 to light a votive candle and say a prayer and a bloody gift shop with LED rope lights selling all sorts of souvenirs inside the cathedral! I was livid and looking for someone to ask if they'd read the Bible and under- stood that Jesus upturned the tables of the money changers and stall holders in the temple!!! Thank God my wife held me back and I walked out in disgust. Rant is half way through. We then went to St Patricks Anglican Cathedral, the biggest and most opulent in the Southern Hemisphere. No charge to take a photo, no tacky payWave stands and no mandatory fee to take a candle and pray. I was in awe of this amazing place, lit a candle, prayed and left a sizeable donation in the discrete slot in the wall. I am disgusted with the commercialisation of the Catholic Church, no wonder they are listed as one of the wealthiest "businesses" in the world!! Rant over, sorry, not your fault at all that I was triggered!!! Contributions Wanted All members of St Margaret’s and the broader Hackett-Downer- Watson community are invited to contribute articles and photo- graphs about things that have happened or are going to happen at the St Margaret’s/Holy Cross complex or in the local community. Articles about members of the community’s own involvements in things of interest to others in the community may also be submitted for potential publication. The deadline for material for the next issue is 11 May 2018, with that issue being published on 18 May. Material should be given to the editor Brian Rope or to Lynda at the church office. It may be handwritten or typed. It may be posted, emailed or personally delivered. St Margaret’s News 10 April 2018
