Holy Cross Seniors Week Event
For some years now, our sister congregation
Holy Cross has conducted a great event
during ACT Seniors Week. It takes the form
of a service of worship followed by morning
tea then a guest speaker in the church.
After that there is a chicken and champagne
luncheon in the large hall. A good crowd is
always attracted, mostly from Holy Cross but
also from other churches including St
Margaret’s. The half a dozen St Margaret’s
attendees this year thoroughly enjoyed the
event. Rev Dr Erica Mathieson conducted an
excellent service. During her sermon she
quoted Billy Graham, whose book written
when he was 93 was a response to the fact
that, whilst he had learned how to die well,
he had never been taught how to live well in
the declining years before death.
The complimentary luncheon was of a high
standard and enabled St Margaret’s
attendees to share a meal and conversation
with Holy Cross people.
It would be great if more St Margaret’s
people attended these events in future
years.
There is early talk about a possible
combined St Margaret’s and Holy Cross
social event during this year’s winter
months. This has been suggested by Holy
Cross to complement the joint worship
events that our two congregations currently
conduct.
The guest speaker this
year was the retired blind
Canberra Times
journalist, Graham
Downie, pictured at right.
Graham spoke very well
and answered numerous
questions from the
enthusiastic audience.
