15.4 QCF Qualifications
We have put together a varied
programme of QCF courses this
year, covering topics that haven’t
been offered previously; Dignity
and Safeguarding and Customer
Service. Alongside these new
courses we are also offering
Dementia Care, End of Life Care
and Customer Service within
Health and Social Care Settings.
Our End of Life Care course,
which is currently being offered
to the South Staffordshire End
of Life Care Action Alliance, in
an initiative to provide end of life
care training to members of the
alliance group. In total between
April 2018 and March 2019 we
will have enrolled 86 learners on
QCF courses.
15.5 Summer School
Ran successfully once again,
in July 2018. We recruited 15
students from schools across our
catchment area and a full four
day programme was provided to
support and inspire young people
interested in a career in care.
15.6 Student Nurses
Both our inpatient units offer
placements to nursing students
from Birmingham City University,
Wolverhampton University and
Stafford University. This year we
ran a pilot scheme with students
splitting their placement between
time on the IPU and time with the
Community Nurse Specialists.
Whittington Barracks sent six
Military Nursing students this
year, and our Lymphoedema
Clinic provided a placement for
seven Podiatry students.
Feedback from students is
always excellent and we have
received requests for elective
placements as a result of
spending time here on the IPUs.
These are placements for third
year students who are able to
choose an area or specialism.
“Felt privileged to support
patients and families at the
end of their lives.”
“We were made to feel
part of the team which
was very motivating.”
“It has been a lovely
placement, all staff have been
very friendly and welcoming,
would recommend to others.”
