Social Media and Online Engagement
Social media and other online platforms have become vital for transparent and relevant information sharing with SFPUC stakeholders , allowing real time two-way conversations between the SFPUC and the public . By actively monitoring and responding to community posts , we have been able to quickly respond to sewer system related questions and concerns , and provide educational materials to keep the community informed about the SSIP .
On March 25th , SFPUC staff and interns performed at the world premiere of “ SF Sewers : You Can ’ t Live A Day Without Me ,” a rap video aimed to educate younger audiences about the SSIP . After its release on the SFPUC ’ s YouTube Channel , the video totaled over 43,000 views across all online platforms , and received local and national media attention in 21 different media outlets . Video views continue to grow and response from the public to the rap video has been overwhelmingly positive .
Throughout the year the communications team filmed and produced several short videos showing “ A Day in the Life ” of different wastewater employees . Videos highlighted sewer cleaning and operations crews in action , and followed SFPUC biologists for a look into what it takes to protect public health and the environment .
