Welcome to the Columbus Centre’s Spring & Summer 2019 Program Guide. In these pages, you will fi nd a rich
and varied array of cultural, athletic and Italian-themed events and activities. From piano to painting, and from
fi tness to fi lm, there is something for almost every age and preference at the Columbus Centre.
Th is spring and summer, we are delighted to present many new off erings alongside your favourite programs.

In the visual arts, we are off ering new outdoor “En Plein Air” painting workshops. Or visit the Joseph D.
Carrier Art Gallery for an exhibition of Nick Biagini paintings in “Above and Beyond.”

Pay-as-you-go hourly parking rates are posted SUBJECT TO
CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE. Staff and visitors to the campus
can also purchase a monthly pass.
Paying (up to date) members of the Athletic facility are granted
a per day maximum of 4 hours courtesy parking by applying
for an exemption and paying the non-refundable activation fee.

combine classes, limit registrations or change instructors.
Should a course be cancelled due to insufficient registration,
fees will be refunded in full. There will be no refunds issued
once classes have commenced. Students withdrawing from a
course prior to first day of class will receive a refund less
administration charge. Please consult respective departments
for more details.

Or hone your language skills in “Learn Italian by Doing.” Th is new series replaces classroom learning with activities such as yoga and dining. Italian
language instruction is also being off ered to kids this summer at our “Ultimate Italian Camp,” where learning is combined with fun activities.
Villa Charities’ cultural programming is stronger today at the Columbus Centre than ever before. We are continuing our Cultural Tuesdays, Diaspora
Series and other Italian-themed events with a brand new lineup of off erings.
Cultural Tuesdays, a series of free illustrated presentations designed to engage our community on cultural topics, will feature guided trips to Rome
through cinema, food tastings and more. Th e Diaspora Series, exploring multiculturalism and cultural identities in the 21st century, returns with the
exhibition “City Builders: A History of Immigrant Construction Workers in Postwar Toronto,” and a book launch and reading of Vito Teti’s “Stones
into Bread.”
Be sure to join us for this year’s Italian Heritage Month events, celebrating Leonardo Da Vinci on the 500th anniversary of his death. Family-friendly
events will include an interactive show exploring the genius of da Vinci, and a “Da Vinci’s Code Scavenger Hunt.”
We’ll also continue our popular Friday Movie & Pasta Series at Caff è Cinquecento, featuring spaghetti dishes and the screening of Italian-themed
fi lms. Or learn to prepare your own Italian dishes in our ongoing culinary workshops.
DanzArts Toronto will once again off er its Summer Series of intensive dance programming, and at the Columbus Centre Athletic Club, Lifesaving
Society swimming lessons will be off ered in summer sessions. Th e Athletic Club will also roll out its enhanced Personal Training services to help
members achieve their health and fi tness goals. As well, this spring approximately $100,000 will be invested in renovations to the Men's and Women's
General and Health Club facilities.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the Villa Charities Visioning Project and appreciate the feedback we
received. Th e project involved extensive community-wide engagement to gather input from stakeholders toward the development of an overarching
campus plan that best meets the needs of Italian-Canadians and an increasingly diverse community for generations to come.

internationally acclaimed theatre company DopoLavoro Teatrale, “Leonardo’s Last Supper.” And in music, join
