The Delight Cycle by Harold Myra Joy. Delight. Love. The Scriptures tell us how we can experience them. I have told you these things so that you with be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! The dynamic is described in Psalm 37:4: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” If we’re delighted with God and what delights him, the desires of our hearts will be in line with what he desires for us. His delight becomes our delight. This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. Similarly, Jesus said that when we obey his commands and remain in his love, our prayers are granted and joy overflows. Reading the words of Jesus shows us not only how to pray but gives us the promise that our prayers—asking, listening, obeying, praising—generate delight and joy. It’s the blessed cycle of love and faith that brings glory to the Father and joy to us. To see how strongly the Bible accentuates this dynamic, meditate on Psalm 119. There the psalmist celebrates God’s commands over and over again; he finds sustaining joy in them. We are part of the action that counts in this troubled planet. What we should do becomes very practical when we obey Jesus’ command: “Love each other the same way I have loved you.” You know, Lord, that I seldom feel joy, let alone joy that overflows. You know also that I don’t love others as you love us. Pour into me your love, Lord, for you and for others who need me to forgive them and to love them. A PRAYER FOR TODAY Lord, even in today’s difficulties, help me to overflow with joy as I love you and love others. GREAT GLORY Selections from John 15 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask anything you want, and it will be granted. When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. Lord, when I neglect your words and fail to remain in you, bring me back so that what I ask will produce fruit from you. Help me to bring glory to you instead of thinking so much about what others think of me. I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love; just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I want to remain in your love, and I know that’s only possible if you pour your love into me. Here are my thoughts, concerns, and desires . . . Let me be fully open to your Spirit. 18 • Spring Sale more to life SALE 14 $ .97 Visit mtlmagazine.com for more articles that bring you more to life! 20 % OFF Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled Harold Myra Forty days of hope-filled meditations immersed in the teachings, stories and prayers of Jesus.
