Aiming for Victory

The Archery team at Valley View has had a very successful year. After practicing multiple times a week and putting in lots of hard work, it was time for the teams to start their competitive season. The teams compete through the National School Archery Program, also known as the NSAP. All three teams went and competed in our Regional Competition on February 9th at Greene County Tech, and Senior High had three members finish in the top ten. All teams placed second in our region, qualifying them all to go to State. On March 1st, they stood at the line with their bows on their toes in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and High School placed in the top 15. This ensured all of the Valley View Archery Teams a spot at Nationals. On May 7th -- 10th, the teams went to compete at the national level in Louisville, Kentucky. While competing in the standard target category, junior Emily Taylor broke a school record by shooting a 290 out of a possible 300. She placed 50th in the Nation out of 2,610 in the High School girls division. After talking with Emily, she says that she has been shooting for about five years now. Also, when she grows up that she wants to be an Archery Coach. At Nationals, the teams also competed in a 3D category where they shoot fake animals. With great scores at Nationals, the teams are hoping to qualify for the World Competition. This year, it will be in July and hosted at Nashville, Tennessee. Congratulations to the Archery Team in a successful season this year!
