Meet the CAA Travel consultant who has visited 100 countries

DOROTHY McLEOD worked
in Mexico, Greece, the
Mediterranean and the
Caribbean before setting
down roots in Winnipeg.
Yet despite a decade as a
CAA Travel consultant, you
could hardly call her settled. Since McLeod’s first
big trip to Australia, where
she covered 13,000 kilometres in three weeks, she has
visited 100 countries—many
of them as a solo traveller.

They’re often concerned
they aren’t going to get
along with everybody. But
you quickly learn who you
have things in common
with. You’re always going to
meet fabulous people on the
tour. You just need to have
an open mind, patience and
flexibility. Plus, you’re never
really alone—there’s always
somebody there to help.
When you started travelling, did you set out to hit
the 100-country mark?
No, it just worked out that
way. I don’t often go to the
same place twice because I
like to explore new places
and have new adventures. I
started with more far-flung
countries—Kenya, Australia,
India, Peru. Then I started
filling in the gaps,
