Meet the Staff

My experience with John

At Prizm, we focus on the Mind, the Body, and the Spirit of our patients. We pride ourselves on being able to offer a number of different services including an onsite physical therapy office headed by John Putnum. John is a matriculant of Notre Dame Preparatory and University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelor of General Studies with community service cords. John then went on to pursue his dreams of becoming a healer and therapist in Pennsylvania at The University of Scranton, where he received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the top of his class.

I had the immense pleasure of being able to sit down with John to discuss his goals as well as getting to try his methods of healing. John is one of few physical therapists that works with dry needling, Kinesiology tape, and edging in one location. The ability to offer all three services allows John and his team to treat a diverse number of acute and chronic pain problems.

I have post-surgical chronic pain in my knee which has begun to affect my hip. After hearing the details of my injury John decided to try some techniques to help. He began by edging my knee where the majority of my pain is located. The edging tool is used to re-tone muscles and help break-up scar tissue that has developed. Once John had completed the edging on my knee John went through a standard arthritis protocol for dry needling. The aim of the dry needling is to relieve the trigger points that has built up since my injury. Placing the needles in and around my knee I could feel the immediate relief of the built-up pressure. Most patients can feel lasting relief after only a few treatments according to John.

One of the most enjoyable parts about working with John was he and his staff were all friendly and all ready to answer any questions I had, including what exercises I can be doing to help strengthen my knee. The friendly atmosphere was one that could put anyone nervous about having physical therapy at ease. Part of the ease that John and his team radiate comes from John’s professional experience which includes various outpatient settings, mentorships, chronic pain management, manual therapy, and completing over 2,000 functional dry needling procedures.
