Indigenous Arts and
Restorative Teachings
For the fourth year running, MASC was
pleased to partner with both the OCSB
and the OCDSB to create IART: a day of
teacher professional development. The
focus of the day was Aboriginal arts
workshops, delivered by MASC artists.
The goal of IART is to expand teachers’
understanding of Aboriginal realities and
culture, providing them with concrete
ideas to incorporate Aboriginal themes
across the curriculum.

The OCSB hosted IART for teachers
of Grades 7-12 at Derry Byrne Teacher
Resource Centre on March 1st,
featuring three artists’ workshops:
Rhonda Doxtator (Making Medicine
Pouches), Denis Charette (Sculpting
with Soapstone) and Jaime Koebel
(Métis beadwork).
