    Primary   Focus Tel:  0380  30701/3  ▪  0388  93716/8   greenvalley@standrews-­‐schools.com       www.standrews-­‐schools.com         The  St.    Andrews  International  School  Primary  Newsletter   2013/2014  Academic  Year:  Issue  6   Friday,  7th    February,  2014   Chinese  New  Year   Nursery  Horse  Riding   With   a   special   assembly,   Chinese   lanterns   and   artwork   hanging   throughout   the   school   and   staff   and   children   all   dressed   in   red,   it   was   a   wonderful   way   to   celebrate   Chinese   New  Year  last  Friday!                     Year  One  Learning  Journeys   On  Tuesday  4th  February,  students  in  Year  1  showed  off   their   learning   to   parents   and   friends.   Cross   curricular   links   were   shared   and   included   Science   experiments,   role   plays   with   masks   and   puppets   -­‐   and   their   model   shelters   too.   They   have   been   inquiring   into   different   materials   being   used   in   the   construction   of   shelters.   Parents   were   actively   involved   in   their   child's   learning   which  helped  make  this  Unit  of  Inquiry  a  huge  success.   Some  quotes  from  students:   "I  like  it  when  my  Mum  came.  "  Tawei  1NS   "I  like  it  very  much.  I  like  my  shelter."  Aadarsh  1NS   "I  like  to  show  my  house."  Gosha  1NS    Quote  from  a  parent:"Thanks  for  the  Learning  Journey.   It  was  really  nice  to  see  the  great  work  you've  all  done!"         Once   every   half   term   Nursery   children   have   the   opportunity   to   learn   horse   riding   with   Mrs   Williams   of   St   Andrews   Equestrian   Centre   at   Chom   View   Horse   Riding   School.   The   experience   they   gain   is   helping   the   children   in   developing   their   personal,   social   and   emotional  skills.  They  have  lots  of  fun  too!       Year  Three  Sleepover     Children   in   Year   3   had   a   great   time   last   night   at   the   annual   Year   3   Sleepover.   After   putting   up   tents   the   children   had   a   chance   to   go   swimming   and   play   some   team   building   games   and   activities   before   campfire   songs   and   bedtime.   Thanks   to   Ms   Cashman,   Ms   Nele,   Mr   Rob   and   Mr   Martin   for   such   a   great   time!
