Manitoba Ringette Hall of Fame Inductees 2016: By Al Gowriluk Player Category: Amy Clarkson Amy Clarkson started playing ringette when she was 6. She had plenty of experience taking the shots. Her much older brother used to put her in net when he and his friends played street hockey, they had no mercy. Nicknamed“Gumby” because of her acrobatic style of goaltending, Amy’s abilities as a top notch goalie saw her play at the “AA” level for 7 years. She attended the Western Canadian Ringette Championships and 4 Canadian Ringette Championships. As a member of Team Manitoba Amy brought home the Gold in 2003. After 6 years with the National Ringette League’s Manitoba Jets, Amy was selected to the 2nd line all-star team at the NRL Championships in 2012 . In 2013 Amy joined the Winnipeg Prairie Fire winning Silver and was chosen as the first line all-star goalie at the NRL Championships. Clarkson was chosen as a member of the 2013 and 2015 Team Canada Senior program, and participated in the World Ringette Championships, and won Silver both times. Lindsay Burns Lindsay Burns got her start in ringette at the age of 5. Lindsay’s tenacity as a player had her selected as an “AA” player for 7 years. Burns’ team won gold at the Western Canadian Ringette Championships in 1997. She attended 7 Canadian 24 / sportslife Ringette Championships, helping Team Manitoba win back to back gold medals starting in 2001. Burns played in the 2003 Canada Winter Games team and won silver. Playing for the Winnipeg Prairie Fire from 2009, she helped her team to a Bronze medal in 2010 and Silver medal in 2013when she was also selected as a first line all-star. She was awarded the NRL Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011. She earned her spot on the Canadian Senior Women’s team & competed at the World Ringette Championships in 2010 and in 2013. In 2005, Burns became a MRA certified instructor. From 2004 to 2006, Lindsay sat on the MRA “AA” committee as the Rural Player Rep. She has always loved to share her knowledge of the sport, and obtained her coaching certification in 2007 and took on a young “AA” team. Lindsay has gone full circle in Ringette over the past 23 years, from a beginner to a winner in multidiscipline levels of the sport . She continues to share her knowledge and skill currently coaching at the grassroots level out of the Interlake. Builder Category: Joan Lachance: Growing up in Transcona, Joan Lachance began playing Ringette at the age of 11 and continued to play until she was 17. Her two daughters both started playing in 2000. She coached her youngest daughter for two years and managed both girls’ teams every season they played. Her youngest daughter attended Westerns for four seasons & she managed the team each season. In 2014 she was a part of the host committee for the Western Canadian Ringette Championships. From 2003-20009 she was convener at Oxford Heights Community Club. Since 2007, she has been WRL Rep for Transcona Ringette Association. In 2009-2013 she was also the President for the Transcona Ringette Association. She spent over 5 years as a loop convener, 4 years on the suspension committee, served one year as the vice-president and is currently a member of the appeal committee. She has also been instrumental at the annual WRL All-Star Game. She has sat on numerous committees and workgroups for the MRA, including Provincials Review Committee, R4U Transition Workgroup, R4U Committee, Youth Skills Development Program workgroup and more. Her love of the sport is obvious by her commitment, and the time she has dedicated. Her focus is always on the players. She is a respected and valued member of the Ringette community and an immeasurable support to the players, her association, the WRL, and the MRA. Jackie Bohemier Jackie Bohemier has been involved in Ringette for over 28 years in multiple capacities and made significant contributions to the sport. A mother of 5, she is a pillar for the Ringette community in her hometown, at the provincial and regional levels as well. She has held sport advancement titles for numerous years. These include official, coach, player, instructor, evaluator, mentor, president, treasurer, director, board member, fan, cabin mom, volunteer and most importantly, mother.
