A change of seasons

We certainly had a wonderful summer in Winnipeg . The Winnipeg Goldeyes won the championship of the American Association , the folks out at Assiniboia Downs had perhaps the best meet in the last 50 years and Olympians Desiree Scott , Sophie Schmidt and Chantal van Landeghem brought back medals from the Rio Olympics .

In this issue of SportsLife , we ’ ll look back on a number of outstanding performances from the Summer of 2016 . But we ’ ll also look ahead to some events coming to Winnipeg in the next 24 months and introduce you to some people you might not have met before .
We ’ re now less than a year from the Opening Ceremonies for the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg and in two years , the World Masters Ultimate Championship will be held in Winnipeg . We ’ ll introduce you to the local board of the Canada Games and also set you up for one of the greatest Disc Championships on the planet .
We ’ ll also introduce you to the 2016 Bisons women ’ s soccer team and Bison ’ s men ’ s football team , Rifles star runningback Michael Ritchott , race car driver Amber Balcaen , young hockey players Vanessa Klimpke and Renee Stevenson and UND football players Mason Bennett and Brady Oliveira .
As well , we ’ ll introduce you to three young women playing with the boys in the Winnipeg High School Football League . Manitoba has a wonderful , diverse , equal and welcoming sports community and the WHSFL is just another one of those leagues that says ,” Come one , come all , and let ’ s play !”
Here at SportsLife Magazine , we ’ re thrilled that Manitobans love to play , no matter the sport and no matter the time of year . We are changing seasons from baseball and horse racing to football and hockey . The games never stop and we certainly wouldn ’ t have it any other way .
